  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make stewed sauerkraut with sausages? To begin, prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. You can use store-bought or homemade cabbage.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

If you don’t have enough carrots in your cabbage, then add one fresh carrot to the recipe. Grate it on a coarse grater and combine with cabbage. I have homemade cabbage with a lot of carrots. Therefore, no additional carrots were needed.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Peel the sausages from the factory film and cut into circles. You can use any sausages for the dish. But it is worth considering that they can greatly affect the final taste of the dish. For example, if you take sausages with a pronounced smoked taste, then the whole dish will also have a slight smoked taste. If you want a neutral flavor, use regular sausages, such as milk or butter.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Peel the onion and cut into half rings.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Heat vegetable oil in a cauldron over medium heat. Add onions and sausages. Fry, stirring, for 2-3 minutes until a golden crust appears on the sausages. Read about how to choose the right vegetable oil in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Add sauerkraut and simmer, stirring constantly, for another 3-5 minutes.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Add tomato paste, salt, sugar and ground pepper to the cabbage. Mix everything and fry everything together for about 2 more minutes. Tomato paste in this recipe can be replaced with crushed tomatoes in their own juice or tomato ketchup.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Pour hot water into the cauldron so that it completely covers the vegetables. Add bay leaves. Stick a head of garlic, peeled from excess husk, into the center. Simmer the cabbage over low heat until excess moisture boils away.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Place the finished stewed cabbage with sausages on plates and serve, garnished with fresh herbs. Bon appetit!

I really love sauerkraut and dishes made from it. Therefore, I was happy to prepare stewed sauerkraut with sausages according to this recipe. I cooked for myself and my husband, so I reduced the number of servings. Kazan was busy, I used the frying pan. My homemade cabbage has a pronounced sourness. You can wash it, but I like it just like this, vigorous). I didn’t add carrots; I wanted to feel the taste of the cabbage itself. There is enough salt in it, but I added a mixture of peppers for spiciness. I fried the onions and sausages, added cabbage, tomato paste, bay leaves and added water. Simmer under a lid over low heat for about 40 minutes. Then without a lid until the liquid evaporates. For me this dish is super delicious! Firm sauerkraut, sausages soaked in brine, aroma of garlic! A simple dish with great taste!

There were no sausages, so I replaced them with boiled sausage. The stewed sauerkraut turned out very tasty. Rich taste of home-made sauerkraut, with soft sourness.

Sauerkraut with sausages is just a wonderful lunch! It’s simple and quick to do, and the combination of products turns out to be very successful. This time I did not add carrots, garlic and tomato paste. I made, so to speak, a lighter version))) The family liked it!
