Sliced tomatoes with onions

So fragrant and appetizing that they disappear from the table in an instant! Tomatoes cut for the winter with onions are an excellent preparation for using tomatoes that have an unpresentable appearance, that is, they are not suitable for twisting in their entirety. They will perfectly complement any table, even a festive one.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make sliced tomatoes for the winter? Prepare all ingredients according to the list. Tomatoes for such preparation can be used that are not very beautiful in appearance, but they must be firm and fresh, without rot or wrinkled areas. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly in running water. Cut into slices or pieces depending on their size and the volume of the jars used for preservation.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel the onions and cut into slices. If the onion is too large for a jar, then it can be cut into feathers or halves of rings. Divide the garlic into cloves, peel the cloves from the membranes and cut into two parts.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Greens for harvesting: cherry leaves, black currants, dill umbrellas, parsley sprigs - wash thoroughly and dry with paper towels. You can use other herbs, herbs and spices for preservation according to your taste and desire.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Wash the jars with soda and sterilize using one of the convenient and proven methods: in a water bath, in the microwave or in the oven. I do this in the oven. Place the wet jars upside down in a cold oven, preheat it to 150°C and sterilize 0.5 liter jars at this temperature for 10 minutes, 1 liter jars for 15 minutes. Wash the lids and boil.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Place cooked herbs, bay leaves, peppercorns, and garlic cloves on the bottom of each jar.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Place slices of tomatoes and onions on top, alternating them with each other.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

How to make a marinade? The marinade may fit a little more or less into the jar depending on how tightly the vegetables are packed. Pour water into a saucepan and place on fire. Add sugar, salt. Bring to a boil, stir until the bulk mixture is completely dissolved. Pour in table vinegar, let it boil and immediately turn off the heat.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Pour the marinade into the jars (you need to pour boiling water in the center of the jar on the vegetables so that the glass does not burst from the hot water) up to the hangers of the jars, making sure that it completely covers the contents. Cover the jars with lids, but do not tighten them immediately. Place the jars of tomatoes in a pan of water on a napkin so that the water reaches the shoulders of the jars. Bring water to a boil in a saucepan and sterilize 0.5 liter jars for about 8 minutes and 1 liter jars for about 15 minutes.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Tighten the jars, let them cool upside down under a blanket and store them in a cool place. Bon appetit!

I prepared chopped tomatoes for the winter with onions according to this recipe. We opened the jar and were very pleased. The preparation process is not complicated. Large tomatoes that don't fit whole in the jar work well. Very good recipe! This turns out to be a real salad. The onion turned out great, it is incredibly tender, crispy and juicy. The marinade is simply stunning, in the end I finished it) The tomatoes in pieces are very appetizing, incredibly tasty, sweetish and just jump into your mouth. Now this is my favorite tomato preparation. Thanks a lot!
