Redcurrant jam in a bread maker
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make jam in a bread machine? Prepare the products according to the list. Choose ripe, large currants. Even when a ripe berry remains a little sour, an unripe one will be completely unsuitable. Consider the size of your bread machine. The number of berries should not exceed the middle of the bowl. 500 grams was perfect for my model.
STEP 2
Wash the currants well by placing them in a colander under running water. Then leave it for a while to allow the water to drain. There is no need to dry the berries, as they will heat up in the bread maker. Then peel the berries from the branches. You can do this simply with your hands. Try using a life hack - remove berries from the branches using a fork. Very comfortably! All the berries are removed in one motion. Also remove excess debris, if any.
STEP 3
Place the currants in a large bowl. Grind it using an immersion blender. You can also use a chopper or meat grinder. Whether to remove the seeds or not is a matter of taste. I've cooked with them and they don't interfere with my jam. If this is critical, then rub the mass through a sieve. Weigh the finished puree.
STEP 4
Measure out the required amount of sugar. Calculate from the proportion for 2 kg of berries - 1.5 kg of sugar.
STEP 5
Pour the berry puree into the bread maker bowl. Add sugar.
STEP 6
Mix the sugar and berries well. Leave the mixture for two hours.
STEP 7
Then place the bowl in the bread maker. Select the appropriate mode. Start the device. What happens to the berries during the process. The mass is heated and stirred from time to time.
STEP 8
After the allotted time - for me it’s 55 minutes - the jam will be ready in the bowl. When hot, it is quite liquid, but after cooling it will become thick, similar to jelly, since currants contain a lot of pectin, a gelling substance.
STEP 9
You can pour the jam hot into dry, clean jars, or you can spread it out when cooled. This jam is stored in a cool place. Due to the large amount of acid and sugar, it does not spoil.
