Incredibly tasty, healthy, appetizing, beautiful, juicy! Rabbit stewed in sour cream in the oven will decorate any table, even a festive one. It turns out very tender, soft, rich. Long baking in the sauce does its job - the meat is soaked in juices and tastes delicious!

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to bake a rabbit stew with sour cream in the oven? Prepare all the necessary products that are indicated on the list. The recipe used a carcass weighing 1200 grams, i.e. I doubled the amount of all other components. Rabbit meat has a specific smell; you can soak the carcass in cold water for several hours to remove it.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Divide the rabbit into portions. Rinse and dry the meat with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Peel the onion and garlic.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

In a small container, mix a mixture of ground peppers and salt (I added a little mixture of Provençal herbs).

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Coat each piece on all sides with the resulting mixture, as if rubbing it into the meat. Leave for a while at room temperature. 20-30 minutes will be enough. You can leave the rabbit in the refrigerator for several hours; the longer it marinates, the tastier the dish will be.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Heat vegetable oil in a thick-bottomed frying pan. Place the pieces of rabbit meat and fry on each side until an appetizing golden crust appears. Fry over high heat so that the meat is “sealed” on the outside and the juices remain inside each piece.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Cut the onion into rings. Place some of the rings on the bottom of the baking dish, place pieces of fried rabbit on top.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Distribute the remaining onion on top of the meat.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

In a deep small cup, mix sour cream, water and garlic passed through a press. Add a pinch of salt and ground pepper if desired. I had very thick sour cream, so I used a little more water than indicated in the recipe. The sauce should have the consistency of heavy cream.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Distribute the sauce evenly over the surface of the meat and onions. Cover the pan with foil and place in a preheated oven to bake. Set the temperature from 180 to 220 degrees, “top-bottom” mode. Leave it this way for about 1 hour - 1 hour. 15 minutes.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Next, remove the foil and bake until cooked and golden brown. It took me about 30-40 minutes. Time and temperature may vary and differ from those specified in the recipe.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Sprinkle the finished dish with fresh herbs. You can serve!

I cooked a rabbit once in my life. So you can say that I have virtually no experience in this. Therefore, when preparing rabbit stewed in sour cream in the oven, I followed the recommendations written in the recipe. I had a rabbit carcass weighing 1.3 kg. I cut it into portions and soaked them in water for a couple of hours. After this, I dried the pieces and rubbed them with ground black and red pepper, as well as a mixture of Caucasian herbs, and left them to marinate overnight. In the morning, I fried the rabbit parts in a cast iron frying pan. I also baked the rabbit in the oven in it. Therefore, I did not make a “pillow” of onions, but laid them all on top. The rabbit was baked for about two hours. The rabbit turned out very fragrant and tender. The meat was perfectly soaked in the sauce. The whole family, both adults and children, liked the rabbit. Zhemchuzhina, thank you very much for the recipe!
