Oat kvass
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
To make oat kvass at home, we will, of course, need whole grain oats. It can be either with or without skin. I have no.
STEP 2
We will also need sugar and drinking water.
STEP 3
Thoroughly rinse the oats to remove all debris under running water.
STEP 4
Then we pour it into the bottle. I took the 2 liter one. For this volume add 3-4 tablespoons of sugar.
STEP 5
Pour 2 liters of drinking water. The taste of kvass will also depend on the water. It is better not to use boiled water from the tap. Purified drinking water is more suitable. Cover with gauze and place in a place where our bottle will not be exposed to direct sunlight. And we leave it to ferment for 3-5 days.
STEP 6
This is our starter after the first day of fermentation.
STEP 7
This is our starter after four days of fermentation.
STEP 8
Pour all the liquid out of the bottle on day 4-5, when active fermentation is underway. We won't drink it. We still have oats - this is the starter for our future kvass.
STEP 9
Pour 2 liters of drinking water back into the fermented oats. Add 3-4 tablespoons of sugar. Mix well. We cover it with gauze and put it again where there is no direct sunlight and after a day you can drink the kvass. You can drain it and put it in the refrigerator, and add water and sugar to the oats again.
