Mexican tortilla flatbread

Of the available products, elastic, very tasty. Mexican tortillas are incredibly tasty and soft. Making them is quite simple. Tortillas can be served instead of the usual bread or used for burritos or enchiladas.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make Mexican tortilla? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Remove the butter from the refrigerator in advance.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Sift flour with salt and baking powder into a deep bowl of suitable size. Thanks to sifting, the flour will be saturated with oxygen, and the finished dough will be more tender. Add soft butter.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Rub the mixture with your hands until crumbs form and add water. Start kneading the dough with a spoon directly from the bowl.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

When the dough begins to come together, transfer it to a work surface that can be lightly floured if necessary. Knead into a soft, tender dough. If necessary, you can add more flour, but you should not overfill this dough with flour. Gather the finished dough into a bun, cover with cling film or a towel and let it “rest” for 20-30 minutes. During this time, the gluten of the flour will swell and the dough will become more elastic.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Divide the finished dough into 4-5 equal-sized parts: you can divide the ball into sections, or you can roll out a rope from the dough and divide it into equal pieces with a knife. Sometimes I divide by eye, and sometimes I use a kitchen scale for this, so that all the pieces are the same weight. Roll each piece thinly into a circle with a rolling pin. The thickness of the cake should be about 1-2 mm.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Fry the tortillas in a dry frying pan over medium heat on both sides. The cakes should brown, but remain soft and not dry.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Place the finished cakes on a flat dish (board) and cover with a towel or place in a pan and cover with a lid. This way they will steam and remain soft and will not break.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Store prepared Mexican tortillas in a tightly sealed bag. Bon appetit!

I made homemade Mexican tortilla bread. When kneading the dough, I replaced the butter with vegetable oil and did not add baking powder. The dough turned out soft, pleasant, pliable. When it had rested, she began to roll out the flatbreads. The dough was pleasant to work with, the surface was lightly dusted with flour. The flatbreads fried quickly. I used the author’s recommendation and covered the tops of the flatbreads with a lid. Due to this, they remained soft. The children started carrying them even before I finished cooking them) The recipe is excellent, thank you!

Thanks for the recipe, I will use it in the future. I made it almost at night (culinary inspiration came), I tried it in the morning. My husband only took a couple of things to work and refused, saying he wouldn’t eat it anyway. Already at lunchtime he called me with the words: “Why didn’t I listen to you! It’s very tasty, I should have taken everything.”

It seems to me that Mexican tortilla is made from corn flour with the addition of wheat, vegetable oil and without baking powder...
