  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make kefir cakes in a dry frying pan? Prepare your ingredients. Pour warm water heated to 36 degrees into a glass. It should be warm, but not scalding, otherwise the yeast in it will die in the future. Add 0.5 tsp. sugar and 1 tbsp. flour, dry yeast and mix everything well until smooth. Place the container with the liquid in a warm place for 15 minutes. Bubbles should appear on the surface of the mixture, which means the yeast has been activated.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Sift the flour into a deep bowl. It is better to sift it twice to saturate it with oxygen. This will make the finished cakes more tender and fluffy. Pour kefir and dough into a bowl with flour, add salt and pour in vegetable oil. Mix all ingredients until an elastic and smooth mass is obtained. Depending on the fat content of kefir and the quality of flour, you may need a little more or less. You can read more about the properties of flour in the article at the link at the end of the recipe.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Continue kneading the dough with your hands until it begins to stick to your hands. Wrap the dough in cling film and leave for half an hour at room temperature.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

On a floured work surface, roll the finished dough into a sausage and divide into several small pieces of equal size.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Give the pieces of dough a round shape so that the cakes turn out smooth and beautiful.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Roll each piece of dough into a small thin cake no more than 0.3 cm thick. Place the frying pan on the fire and heat without adding oil. Read about how to choose the perfect frying pan in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Place the flatbread on the frying pan. Make several punctures on it with a fork so that it does not swell during frying. Fry the tortillas over medium heat for about 5 minutes on one side. Then turn the tortillas over and fry on the second side until lightly browned. The flatbreads fry quite quickly, so the main thing is not to overcook them in the pan so that they don’t burn and become bitter. Each subsequent batch of tortillas will cook even faster.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

It is better to grease the finished flatbreads with butter immediately while they are hot so that they are soft. Serve the flatbreads to the table with tea, coffee, soup or second hot dishes. Bon appetit!

I prepared kefir cakes in a dry frying pan. I kneaded the dough as indicated in the recipe. I let it sit for about an hour. The dough rose well, I kneaded it and began to form flat cakes. It was a pleasure to work with the dough; it was soft, tender, and pliable. I rolled it out with a rolling pin and fried it in a dry, well-heated frying pan. The finished flatbreads were stacked one on top of the other and covered with a lid on top. Thanks to this, they did not dry out and remained soft. I made two types of flatbreads: some are quite thick, fluffy inside, others are thinner, almost like pita bread. I liked both options. The recipe is excellent, I recommend it!
