STEP 1
How to bake Irish soda bread in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. You need to take 1% kefir and it is advisable to take it out of the refrigerator in advance so that it is at room temperature. But if you wish, you can use kefir of any fat content. I took regular wheat flour, adding 2 tbsp. bran, it turned out to be flour with bran. But this is optional.
STEP 2
Take sunflower seeds and dry them in a well-heated frying pan without oil. They need to be slightly browned. Stir the seeds frequently to prevent them from burning. Transfer the toasted seeds from the frying pan into a bowl. This will stop the browning process. After all, if you leave them in a hot frying pan, they will continue to fry and may burn.
STEP 3
Sift the flour through a sieve to saturate it with oxygen, and return the bran remaining in the sieve back to the flour. Add the toasted cooled sunflower seeds, baking soda and salt. As a rule, I add granulated sugar to almost any dish to balance the taste, and Irish soda bread in the oven is no exception. Mix all ingredients.
STEP 4
Knead a soft dough that sticks to your hands, gradually adding kefir at room temperature. Since flour from different manufacturers has different properties, you may need less or more of it. Focus on the required dough consistency.
STEP 5
Turn on the oven to preheat to 200 degrees. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Dust the paper, dough and hands with flour. Place the homogeneous dough on a dusted surface and shape into a round loaf. Using a sharp knife, make a cross-shaped cut on top.
STEP 6
Place the formed dough in the oven immediately after kneading and bake for about 35-40 minutes. The bread should rise noticeably and brown. Remove the finished Irish bread from the oven, cover with a clean towel and let cool. As additional ingredients, you can add a few pure raisins, prunes or sesame seeds to such baked goods. You can also add some turmeric.
