  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to marinate herring in wine sauce? Very fast and easy! Prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. Take lightly salted herring, strong and fatty. You can buy ready-made fish or salt it yourself. You can use red or white wine vinegar. If you don’t have wine vinegar, you can replace it with regular table vinegar. Spices can be added to your taste. Coriander and mustard beans are suitable.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel the ginger and grate it on a fine grater. You can replace fresh ginger with the same amount of dried one.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

In a saucepan, combine wine, grated ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, bay leaf and sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the wine to a boil. As soon as the marinade boils, remove the saucepan from the heat. Cool the marinade to room temperature. Finally, pour in the wine vinegar.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

While the marinade is cooling, prepare the fish. Gut the herring, remove the head, tail and fins, and remove scales. To make it easier to remove the skin, hold the fish under running boiling water.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Cut the herring in half lengthwise, remove the backbone and bones. Cut the resulting fillets into pieces about 2 cm wide. You can significantly reduce time and effort by taking ready-made, cut, lightly salted fillets.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Place the chopped fish in a container with a lid.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Pour in the wine marinade and refrigerate for at least 6-8 hours or a day.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Shake off the marinade from the finished fish and place on a plate. Add chopped onions and fresh herbs. You can serve the appetizer with any side dish, but it tastes best with boiled or baked potatoes. Bon appetit!
