  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to cook dried fruit compote in a saucepan? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. You can change the composition of the compote by adding a different set of dried fruits. The more varied the composition of the compote, the richer and tastier it will be.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Also, its color will depend on the composition. If there are a lot of prunes and dark raisins in it, the compote will turn out to be a rich tea color. And if dried apricots, apples, and light raisins predominate, the compote will have a beautiful dark amber color. Soak dried fruits and raisins for 5 minutes in warm water in different bowls to make it easier to rinse them from sand, if any. Rinse dried fruits thoroughly under warm, running water.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Pour water into a saucepan and place over medium heat, bring to a boil, add the washed dried fruits. It is best to take purified water through a filter or purchased water. This water is softer in composition, so the taste of dried fruits is revealed better. Read how to choose a pan in a separate article at the end of the recipe.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Reduce heat and simmer, covered, over low heat for 30 minutes.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Then add the washed raisins and cook for another 15-20 minutes. Raisins can be used in both dark and light varieties.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Pour sugar into the pan with compote and stir until it is completely dissolved. You can use cane sugar, then the compote will also get a caramel flavor. Cook the compote for 10 minutes. Instead of sugar, you can use honey, sweetener substitutes, or do without it altogether.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Remove the pan from the heat and cover for about 1-2 hours. This will help the raisins and dried fruits steam better and release all their flavor and sweetness into the compote. The compote will become richer and tasty, and after cooling it will be even sweeter than when warm.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

The compote can be served cold during the hot season or warm to warm up on cold, dank days. It is best to store classic dried fruit compote in the refrigerator so that it does not ferment. Enjoy your treat!

And we make compote in a 5 liter saucepan. Once the water boils, add either dried fruits or thinly sliced fresh apples. A slice of lemon and orange (tangerine) skins go well with them. Turn off the water immediately. Let it sit overnight. And if it’s a day, the compote becomes even tastier.
