  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make crackers at home? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Take water at normal room temperature. Vegetable oil without odor is better. For crackers, the gluten content in flour should be within 28-30%, which is typical for premium and first grade flour. To ensure successful crackers, you should not use a lower grade of flour.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Combine flour with salt, sugar, baking powder, mix. Sift the dry ingredients into a convenient container. It should be of a suitable size and height so that the flour does not spill out onto the table when sifting. Sifting will enrich the flour with oxygen and thereby improve the structure of the finished crackers.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Add flax seed to the sifted dry ingredients and mix. Flax can be replaced with sesame or sunflower seeds.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Make a well in the flour and pour in the vegetable oil.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Add water. Stir the dough first with a spoon, then knead with your hands. This needs to be done quickly, no more than 3-4 minutes, so that the cookies do not turn out dense and harsh. If the dough turns out runny, then add a little more flour; if, on the contrary, it is lumpy, then add a little water.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

The dough turns out stiff, but soft. Wrap the dough in cling film or cover it to prevent it from airing. Leave the dough to rest for 30 minutes. During this time, the gluten in the flour will swell and the dough will become more pliable. It will be more convenient and easier to roll out. Turn on the oven to 190 degrees in advance.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Sprinkle the table with flour, place the dough on it and roll it out into a layer about 2 mm thick.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Cut the dough into cookies of the desired shape and size.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Carefully transfer the blanks to a sheet covered with oiled parchment. Prick each cookie with a fork so that it does not swell during baking. You can choose the right parchment paper by reading a separate article about the features of parchment, the link is at the end of the recipe. Before baking, you can sprinkle the crackers with a little fine salt. You will get a version of salted cookies. And to make the cookies appeal to those with a sweet tooth, you can sprinkle them with sugar.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Bake the crackers in an oven preheated to 190 degrees for 10-15 minutes. The cookies are thin, so they bake very quickly. As soon as the edges begin to brown, immediately remove the crackers to prevent them from drying out and becoming tough. Baking time will depend on the operating characteristics of the oven. You can learn about the operating features of ovens by reading a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Serve homemade crackers with tea, coffee, milk. Bon appetit!

I live in Turkey, I had to give my child crackers for kindergarten, because I forgot to buy them the evening before, and at night I had to urgently prepare them. Thanks for such a simple recipe. I didn’t roll out the dough thinly, I was afraid that the cookies would be too hard. But there was no reason to be afraid of this, you just need to make sure that it doesn’t dry out in the oven. I made it with sesame seeds, but later I’ll try it with flax seeds. It will be tasty and healthy. I didn’t add salt on top, but just add sugar, as they recommend. Otherwise, the crackers turn out a little bland. But the children liked it, the teacher said:) so I recommend it!
