Compote with mint and lemon
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make compote with mint and lemon for the winter? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Many people do not like the bitterness of citrus fruits that appears in the compote on the second day. Sometimes it can turn into intense bitterness. Its compote is given by a white layer between the pulp itself and the zest. The thinner this layer is, the less bitterness there will be. Therefore, choose fruits with thin skin.
STEP 2
Wash the lemon thoroughly first and rub it with a brush, because we will use the fruit along with the peel. Cut half a lemon into slices or thin circles. In my photo you can see that somewhere the white layer on the lemon is very thin, and somewhere a little thicker. There are fruits where this layer is twice as thick - such compotes are usually very bitter. My compote did not taste bitter at all thanks to the correctly chosen fruits.
STEP 3
Wash the mint and dry it. Peel the leaves from the branches and lightly mash them with your hands so that the leaves release the juice. This will make the drink more flavorful.
STEP 4
Boil 1 liter of water in a saucepan. Add sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Boil the base for another 2 minutes.
STEP 5
Add lemon and mint to the compote. Boil for another minute and remove the pan from the heat.
STEP 6
Wash the jars with soda and sterilize for a couple of 10-15 minutes. Wash the lids and boil. You can also sterilize jars in the microwave or oven. Choose a method that is convenient for you. It is important that the jars remain hot or at least warm and do not have time to cool completely, so that the glass does not crack due to temperature changes. For 1 liter of compote, you can take 1 liter jar or 2 jars of 500 ml each.
STEP 7
Pour the hot compote into jars. Add lemon slices and mint leaves from the pan to the jars.
STEP 8
Seal the jars with screw caps or roll up tin lids using a wrench.
STEP 9
Turn the jars upside down.
STEP 10
Wrap it up and leave until it cools completely. Turn the jars with the cooled lemon compote back upside down.
STEP 11
Store the mint lemon mojito compote in a cool, dark place. Store opened jars of compote in the refrigerator. Bon appetit!
