STEP 1
How to cook pearl barley porridge with milk? Prepare your food. Choose milk of any fat content you like, it doesn’t matter. Cooking porridge is a long process, so calculate the time by which you need the dish. If you want to serve this porridge for breakfast, it is better to prepare it the evening before; therefore, you need to soak the cereal in the morning.
STEP 2
Sort through the grains, removing debris and excess inclusions. Then rinse it thoroughly under cool running water. Rinse the cereal until the water you drain from it runs clear. Fill the washed pearl barley with clean cold water. For this purpose, take filtered or bottled water.
STEP 3
Leave the pearl barley to soak for 8 hours at room temperature. During this time it will swell a little and become softer. Place the cereal in a sieve and rinse well again. Then let the water drain.
STEP 4
Pour milk into the pan in which the porridge will be cooked. Heat it until warm. Add the prepared cereal.
STEP 5
Place the pan on low heat. While stirring constantly, wait until the milk boils. Add sugar and salt. Reduce heat to low and simmer the porridge for 5 minutes. Don't forget to stir it so the milk doesn't burn. Next we will cook the porridge in a water bath.
STEP 6
Make a water bath. Take a saucepan of such a size that you can put the pan with porridge in it so that it hangs on its walls without reaching the bottom. Pour water into a large saucepan. Bring it to a boil. Place the pan with porridge on top. Be careful not to let the boiling water splash out. Carefully drain off excess water.
STEP 7
Turn the heat so that the water in a large saucepan is gently boiling. Leave the porridge to cook in a water bath for 5 hours. Add water to the large saucepan from time to time. There is no need to watch the porridge; it will not burn, as it is steamed. After 5 hours, the cereal will absorb almost all the milk and become soft and aromatic. Be sure to serve the porridge with butter, it will emphasize and complement its creamy taste. Bon appetit!
