Cooking porridge is a long process, so calculate the time by which you need the dish. If you want to serve this porridge for breakfast, it is better to prepare it the evening before; therefore, you need to soak the cereal in the morning.

    Sort through the grains, removing debris and excess inclusions. Then rinse it thoroughly under cool running water. Rinse the cereal until the water you drain from it runs clear. Fill the washed pearl barley with clean cold water. For this purpose, take filtered or bottled water.

    Leave the pearl barley to soak for 8 hours at room temperature. During this time it will swell a little and become softer. Place the cereal in a sieve and rinse well again. Then let the water drain.

I saw a recipe for pearl barley porridge with milk and wanted to make it. I’m not a fan of milk porridge at all, but the pearl barley porridge turned out really tasty. I took less amount of cereal, so I simmered the porridge in a water bath less. The cooking process itself surprised me - I’ve never cooked pearl barley like this before.
