How to dry rose hips in the oven
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to prepare rose hips for the winter? When should you pick berries? Rose hips are best harvested at the end of September or October before the onset of cold nights. Fruits collected in October contain the greatest amount of vitamins and retain many beneficial properties.
STEP 2
So, collect rose hips.
STEP 3
Sort the berries, throw away any spoiled or blackened ones, remove any remaining dried flowers, if any. It is better not to remove the stalk at this stage; it will be much easier and faster to remove it from dried berries in the future.
STEP 4
Next, there are two ways to dry rose hips: natural drying indoors/outdoors in the shade or in the oven.
STEP 5
To dry in the oven, line a wire rack or baking tray with baking paper. Spread the berries in an even layer. Turn on the oven to 50 degrees and leave the rose hips to dry for 2-3 hours. Open the door occasionally for 5-10 seconds to release the moisture. Next, increase the temperature to 70 degrees and leave the rose hips for another 5-6 hours. Also, do not forget to occasionally open the oven door. The berries should be stirred occasionally so that they dry evenly.
STEP 6
This is what rosehips look like after 3-4 hours of drying.
STEP 7
And so, which were dried for about 8-10 hours in an electric oven.
STEP 8
Store the finished rose hips in glass jars with holes in the lid or fabric bags in a dry, dark place.
