    STEP 1

How to prepare rose hips for the winter? When should you pick berries? Rose hips are best harvested at the end of September or October before the onset of cold nights. Fruits collected in October contain the greatest amount of vitamins and retain many beneficial properties.

To dry in the oven, line a wire rack or baking tray with baking paper. Spread the berries in an even layer. Turn on the oven to 50 degrees and leave the rose hips to dry for 2-3 hours. Open the door occasionally for 5-10 seconds to release the moisture. Next, increase the temperature to 70 degrees and leave the rose hips for another 5-6 hours. Also, do not forget to occasionally open the oven door. The berries should be stirred occasionally so that they dry evenly.

We have rosehip bushes growing near our yard, but I rarely harvest berries. I used to dry it in an electric dryer, but this year I didn’t want to unpack the device) Moreover, I had a recipe in my bookmarks telling how to dry rose hips in the oven. It turns out this is a very simple and convenient way. I collected the rose hips, washed them and laid them out on a waffle towel to absorb unnecessary moisture. I immediately removed the ponytails; they came off easily. First dried at 50 degrees for 3 hours. Then at 70, but it took me less time, about 3 hours. At the same time, she opened the door slightly and stirred the rose hips. I have two types of rose hips, I noticed that the round one dried out faster than the oblong one. I liked this drying method, now we have a supply of rose hips for making vitamin drinks. Thanks for the recipe!
