    Sift flour with spices, cinnamon, salt, add powdered sugar. Grate the butter into the flour. Place the currants in a bowl, pour in cognac and add vanilla, leave for 10 minutes. Lightly beat the egg and mix with currants and cognac. Mix with flour and butter, kneading quickly into a soft dough.

    Roll the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for at least 15-20 minutes.

    Roll out the dough (through baking paper or sprinkling lightly with flour) into a layer 0.5-0.75 cm thick and cut out circles with a diameter of 6 cm. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

    Bake for about 16-20 minutes until done in an oven preheated to 180 degrees. Cool the finished cookies on a wire rack. If desired, sprinkle the still warm cookies with powdered sugar.
