Baked capelin in the oven
Capelin, a close relative of smelt, is a tasty small-sized sea fish, suitable for serving as a separate dish. This means that you won’t be able to make cutlets or stew out of it. That is, of course, you can try, but it’s not a fact that it will work out well. Capelin is best either fried or baked whole. This is a fish for cozy family gatherings at the table. You can bake capelin in the oven in many ways, all of them will be slightly different from each other. For example, you can do it breaded, in batter, or without anything. Use different seasonings and flavor enhancers. Add additional vegetables like onions, carrots, bell peppers (especially good for a “pillow” or “coat”). Use chicken eggs. Cook with or without a side dish - and so on.
When cooking, it is worth considering that due to the small size of capelin, it cooks very quickly. And if some other products go into the oven with it, they can bake longer. However, this should be described in the recipe.

One more point: this fish has its own fat, which melts when heated. This means that capelin does not require oil for comfortable baking.
