STEP 1
How to make poppy seed filling for a roll? Prepare the necessary ingredients. You can use sugar instead of honey. Also suitable dried fruits for filling are dried apricots or prunes.
STEP 2
Steam the raisins. How to steam raisins correctly? Rinse the raisins thoroughly. Pour hot water over the raisins and leave for 10-15 minutes. During this time it will become soft and the filling will be juicier. Drain and dry the raisins with paper towels. If you use other dried fruits, do the same with them.
STEP 3
Place poppy seeds in a small saucepan. Fill it with water at the rate of one part poppy seed and two parts water. Place the pan on the stove and bring the poppy seeds to a boil. Boil it over moderate heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
STEP 4
Turn off the stove and let the poppy seeds sit with the lid closed for another 10-15 minutes. During this time, the poppy seeds will warm up well.
STEP 5
Place the poppy seed on cheesecloth folded in several layers to drain.
STEP 6
Place poppy seeds and drained raisins in a suitable sized bowl.
STEP 7
To make the filling homogeneous and more tender, chop the poppy seeds and raisins. For this purpose, you can use an immersion blender, blender bowl or mortar. Choose the option that is more convenient for you. I used an immersion blender.
STEP 8
Add honey (or sugar) to the crushed mass and mix thoroughly. The filling will become more viscous. Use your taste when adding a sweet ingredient. If you like it sweeter, increase the amount of honey, but take into account the sweetness of the raisins. To vary the taste, you can add orange or lemon zest. It will give the filling a light citrus aroma.
STEP 9
The poppy seed filling is ready. This amount of filling is more than enough to make a roll about 34 cm long. You can also use it for buns or pies. Delicious and successful baking!
