Moonshine from grapes
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make moonshine from grapes at home? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Take any grapes, no matter what color they are, but the sweeter the grapes, the better. You can make moonshine without adding sugar, but then the process of preparing the mash for distillation will take 1-2 weeks longer. In addition, with the addition of sugar, the amount of finished moonshine will be 30 percent more.
STEP 2
Never wash grapes. The surface of the grapes contains many bacteria that are necessary for fermentation. And again, you can do without yeast, but the mash will begin to ferment on its own much later and the preparation time for moonshine will be delayed. Separate the berries from the branches, put them in a fermentation container and mash them with a press or, for example, a masher. This can also be done in a large, convenient container, and then transferred, for example, to jars.
STEP 3
Use fresh pressed yeast for moonshine. But substitution with wine yeast is also acceptable. Break up the yeast, add a spoonful of sugar. Pour in some warm water. The water must be unfiltered and unboiled - it must be alive - only such water promotes fermentation.
STEP 4
Wait for the foam to form and pour into the fermentation container.
STEP 5
Add the remaining sugar, pour in water, stir and put on a disposable glove. Place the fermentation container in a dark, warm place. The temperature should be at least 20 degrees.
STEP 6
Once the glove is inflated, the fermentation process has begun. It can last from 10 to 16 days. This time my fermentation lasted 12 days. Once the glove is deflated, the mash is ready for distillation.
STEP 7
Prepare a moonshine still. If your equipment provides it, connect the cold water hoses.
STEP 8
Strain the mash and pour it into the moonshine still.
STEP 9
Place the moonshine still on the fire. Once the temperature is 75 degrees, turn on the cold water hoses. Collect moonshine in a separate clean container. Moonshine after the first distillation is already ready for use, but I recommend doing a second distillation. To do this, dilute the finished moonshine to a strength of 20 degrees (for 1 liter of moonshine, take 400 ml of clean water). Pour into the moonshine still and repeat the distillation procedure.
STEP 10
During the second distillation, the first 100 ml and the last 100 ml of the newly obtained moonshine must be collected separately and poured out, because the first and last portions are the richest in fusel oils and can be dangerous if consumed. Pour the resulting moonshine from grapes with yeast and sugar into bottles and let it brew for 3-4 days. You can tint it with a drop of tea leaves. Be careful when drinking alcohol!
