Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1

Peel the pears, leaving the stems. Trim off some of the flesh at the base to make the pears more stable.
STEP 2

Pour the wine into a large saucepan, add sugar, cinnamon, cloves, orange juice and zest. Heat over low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
STEP 3

Carefully place the pears in the pan and bring to a boil. Cover with a lid, reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, until soft. Divide the pears among plates and serve with ice cream. You can pour the syrup in which the pears were cooked.
