STEP 1

Roll out a sheet of puff pastry without yeast to approximately 30 cm * 35 cm (in this case, you need to focus on the size of your baking sheet). Place the rolled out sheet of dough on an inverted baking sheet, having previously covered it with baking paper. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top of the dough.
STEP 2

To prevent the puff pastry from rising too much during baking, place a sheet of baking paper on top of the dough and cover with another inverted baking sheet. Place all this structure in an oven preheated to 180°C and bake for 20 minutes.
STEP 3

After the time has passed, remove the baking sheet from the oven, carefully transfer the cake onto a board and cut it once lengthwise and once across. You should get 4 equal parts. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack and let them cool completely.
STEP 4

At this time, prepare the custard. Pour the milk into a ladle, put it on the stove and bring the milk to a boil, add vanillin, mix and remove from heat. Let the milk sit for 10 minutes. At this time, grind the yolks with the remaining sugar and cornstarch. Transfer the egg mixture into a ladle with milk and put it back on the stove. Stirring constantly, bring the cream to thicken over medium heat. Then add butter and mix thoroughly.
STEP 5

Let's prepare the top layer of the patterned cake. To do this, first prepare the glaze: thoroughly mix the powdered sugar with lemon juice. Pour the glaze onto the cake and carefully distribute it over the entire surface. Apply horizontal stripes on top with melted dark chocolate. Then carefully draw lines with a knife perpendicular to the horizontal stripes, first from top to bottom, then from bottom to top, and so on.
STEP 6

Assembling the cake: place the cake on the board, evenly cover it with 1/3 of the custard, repeat this procedure 2 more times. Place the cake layer with glaze on the last third layer. Cut the resulting cake into 3 portions. To make the cakes tastier, let them sit for a while so that the dough is saturated with custard.
