How to make caramelized onions? Prepare your food. Regular onions and salad varieties - red, white, shallots - are suitable. Take refined, odorless oil. Instead of balsamic vinegar, you can use table or apple cider vinegar. An interesting taste will be obtained with brown rather than white sugar.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Stirring, fry it over medium heat, but not at maximum, so that the onion does not burn.

When the main juice has evaporated and the onion rings have softened and lightly browned, add sugar, salt and balsamic vinegar.

My husband asked me to fry onions for dinner as a side dish. Of course, you can fry it just like that, but I wanted something original. On the website I found a recipe for caramelized onions, the composition immediately makes it clear that it will be delicious) I had a fairly small onion and when cutting the rings they turned out neat, they were easy to attach to a fork. I increased the amount of onion to 1200 g, because everyone knows that onions significantly decrease in volume when frying. You can see this transformation in the photo) I cooked the onion for about half an hour over medium heat. Then added salt, sugar and vinegar. I reduced the amount of sugar a little, and, according to the author’s advice, replaced balsamic vinegar with apple cider vinegar. According to the recipe, after this you need to simmer the onion under the lid for 15 minutes. I simmered for 10 minutes, then decided that there was too much liquid and continued cooking without a lid, stirring the onion. The caramelized onions were served cooled; I found them tastier than hot. My husband really liked it, and I'm glad. Moreover, the dish is not expensive and the cooking process is very simple and straightforward. The onion tasted sweet and sour. A very nice combination! These rings can also be used to decorate fried fish or meat.
