Croutons with garlic

Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1

Prepare your ingredients. What kind of bread is suitable? You can make croutons from white homemade or toaster bread, French baguette (it is better if the baked goods are not very fresh). Remove the melted butter from the refrigerator in advance so that it melts. Or melt it in the microwave or in a water bath.
STEP 2

Cut the bread into small cubes (about 1 cm). If the crust is hard, it is better to cut it off.
STEP 3

Peel the garlic. Finely chop the cloves with a knife or pass them through a press.
STEP 4

In a suitable container, combine ghee and garlic. Stir.
STEP 5

Add dry spices. I used an Uzbek mixture containing turmeric, red pepper, cumin, sumac, and barberry. You can take any other spices to your taste, for example, Provençal herbs.
STEP 6

Stir the mixture well.
STEP 7

Place the bread cubes in an even layer on the baking sheet. There is no need to lubricate it with anything beforehand. But you can line the baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat to make it easier to clean after cooking.
STEP 8

In portions, evenly pour the mixture of butter and garlic over the future croutons. Stir until all sides are coated with the fragrant butter mixture. In advance (10-15 minutes before cooking), preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Bake.
STEP 9

After about 5 minutes, when the croutons are golden on top, stir them to ensure even cooking. Then return the pan to the oven so that the croutons brown on the other side as well.
STEP 10

Remove the pan with bread slices from the oven. Sprinkle them with salt to taste. Let them cool. Some croutons may still be soft - they will soften as they cool. The main thing here is not to dry them out in the oven.
STEP 11

How to store croutons? When completely cool, transfer them to an airtight container. Croutons can be stored for several weeks, so you can prepare large quantities at once.
