Tacos, or tacos, are one of the most famous and popular Mexican fried dishes around the world. They are prepared on the basis of a thin flat cake called tortilla. And it, in turn, is kneaded with wheat or corn flour. In essence, the dish is a hot appetizer, similar to shawarma or even pizza. It can consist of many different products, from vegetables and meat to mushrooms, cheese, fish, fruits and seafood.
Traditional, classic taco recipes add stewed cactus pulp. But not just any one, but a special one, Mexican. However, in the absence of one, many do without it. Also included: fried beans, chicken, assorted seafood and vegetables, pork, beef, chorizo (flavored Latin American sausage), cheese, herbs, guacamole and salsa.
Tacos are served unwrapped: the filling is spread on the tortilla and everything is placed on a plate. The eater folds the taco in half himself, without resorting to the help of cutlery. They can also be eaten with their hands, like a regular sandwich.
Translated from Mexican, this word meant “lump.” But over time, it acquired its own meaning and today is translated as “light lunch” or “spicy meat tortilla.” In their historical homeland, there are numerous establishments called taquerias, which serve one or another type of tacos. Each taco has its own name. As a rule, it is related to what the filling is made of.
In addition to the fillings, tacos differ from each other in the method of preparation and serving. For example, corn dorados are fried in oil, rolled in half or into a tube immediately with the filling. Ahogados are served half drowned in salsa. Sudados are filled with boiled filling, and dekanasta is decorated in the form of a basket. For dobladas, a folded tortilla is first fried in oil until crispy, and then just filled. And for degisados, all the filling is first stewed.
Like many Mexican dishes, tacos have a spicy flavor.
At home, you can prepare tacos from scratch or using semi-finished products - store-bought tortillas. The second is simpler and faster: all that remains is to choose the appropriate recipe.
